The New England Journal of Medicine even posted a study in 2006 that showed patients with cystic fibrosis who followed a course of treatment using salt for 48 weeks showed significant results without any adverse affects.

Em 2006, o New England Journal of Medicine publicou os resultados de uma experiência com 164 pacientes estáveis com fibrose cística. Nessa experiência os pacientes foram divididos aleatoriamente e 7% inalaram água salgada hipertônica com a finalidade de avaliar se a Haloterapia poderia efectivamente ser utilizada para aumentar e melhorar função de depuração do muco ciliar pulmonar.
